Some of Those That Work Forces (2023)
A contained series of 21 paintings depicting the same cartonish, menacing face of a police officer. Creating these pieces was a self-imposed crucible for myself; an active meditation on the privilege and the mundanity of state violence. I rendered each face—simultaneously a clone of the others and its own individual malice stroke by stroke over a period of months.
This series was produced for a solo exhibition at Solas Studios in Soho NYC. Part painting exhibition, part installation this work aims to create an environment of hostility for attendees, interrogating their relationship with codified power and how they respond to the depicted figures.
